About Asian Tiger Mosquito

The Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is a small, strikingly marked mosquito with black-and-white striped legs and thorax, native to Southeast Asia but now established on six continents. Unlike most mosquitoes it bites aggressively during daylight hours and feeds on a wide variety of hosts. It is a competent vector of dengue, chikungunya, Zika, and over 20 other arboviruses. Critically, it breeds in tiny volumes of standing water — bottle caps, leaf axils, plant saucers — making conventional larviciding programs more challenging than for container-avoiding species.

Geographic Distribution

This insect is found across Europe, with notable populations in France and surrounding regions.
