About Pavement Ant

Pavement ants (Tetramorium immigrans) are 2.5–3 mm brown-to-black ants originally introduced from Europe that now rank among the most common structural ant pests across North America. They build colonies beneath sidewalks, driveways, and slab foundations, pushing fine soil to the surface in small volcano-shaped piles. Workers forage widely for greasy and sweet foods and readily invade kitchens. In late spring, rival colonies wage dramatic pitched battles on pavement surfaces, with thousands of workers locked in combat along colony borders.

Geographic Distribution

This insect is found across Asia, with notable populations in China and surrounding regions.
