About Pharaoh Ant

Pharaoh ants (Monomorium pharaonis) are 1.5–2 mm yellowish ants that are one of the most difficult structural pests to eliminate, thriving in hospitals, hotels, and apartment complexes worldwide. They do not swarm — instead, budding queens split off with workers to start new nests, so applying repellent sprays accelerates their spread. Baiting is the only reliably effective strategy. They trail through wall voids, plumbing, and electrical conduit, contaminating IV lines in medical settings and carrying pathogenic bacteria including Salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus.

Geographic Distribution

This insect is found across Oceania, with notable populations in Fiji and surrounding regions.
