About Cellar Spider

Cellar Spider is a spider species that serves as an important predator of insects and other arthropods in its native ecosystem, contributing significantly to natural pest suppression. Spiders use silk variously for web construction, prey immobilization, egg sac production, and aerial dispersal (ballooning) depending on the species and life stage. Most spider species found in and around homes are harmless and actively beneficial. Management in dwellings is best achieved by reducing clutter and harborage, sealing gaps, and addressing the insect populations that attract them rather than blanket chemical treatment.

Geographic Distribution

This spider is found across Asia, with notable populations in China and surrounding regions.
