About Wolf Spider

Wolf spiders (family Lycosidae) are large, hairy hunting spiders ranging from 10–35 mm — among the most commonly encountered large spiders in homes, garages, and gardens. They do not build webs to capture prey; instead they actively chase down invertebrates with impressive bursts of speed. Their distinctive eye arrangement — four small eyes on the bottom row, two large forward-facing eyes in the middle row, two medium eyes on top — makes them straightforward to identify. Female wolf spiders carry their egg sacs attached to their spinnerets and then carry spiderlings on their backs after hatching, a behavior unique among spiders. Their bites are painful but not medically significant to healthy adults.

Geographic Distribution

This spider is found across Africa, with notable populations in Egypt and surrounding regions.
